CCMA Concilliation - 23 March

Dear Comrades

The CWU HQ's Cde Agnes has referred a dispute on my behalf to the CCMA. There will be a concilliation meeting on 23 March, at which the SABC's representative (Andre Weber) should bring the mandate of the GCEO, Mr Solly Mokoetle, to the table.

I am asking for re-instatement. Please be so kind as to ask Mr Mokoetle to set some time aside for a loyal SABC servant who wishes to return to work in order to help him expose more corruption and victimisation.

I request that he mandates the ER department to re-instate me. Any grievances the CPO has with me (unfounded), should then be resolved during a grievance resolution meeting, which has never happened. No one has ever asked me to clarify anything.

I have not been paid for 2 months now, but still spend a large part of my day being an activist for what is right at the SABC.

I will never give up - but need your help - feel free to email me at rian.geldenhuys@gmail.com, or to comment on this post.

Your Comrade forever
Rian Geldenhuys

Public Interest

Kaizer Kganyago told reporters that "SABC Employee Disputes" are not in the public interest.

He is misguided in this statement. When the public want to know why a competent, well loved newsreader is suddenly taken off air, they have the right to know. It is in the public's interest to know. News is in the public interest.

Similarly, when a whistleblower on corruption in the Public Broadcaster is dismissed, the public has the right to know why.

This reporter can at least venture a learned opinion. People who question gangsters are silenced at such a rapid pace that it really is not newsworthy any more. Sad.

Retrenchment talk

The Minister of Communication has referred to the SABC as being "Staff Heavy". Comrades, it is very urgent that you provide the Shop Stewards Council with information on your top heavy line management:
1. Are they needed?
2. What is their actual contribution to the SABC?
3. Do they get the best out of their staff?

These reports are required by your Shop Steward - let us make sure the real dead wood (expensive managers) are retrenched. We must mobilise against any attempts to reduce numbers in the bargaining unit - we are here to work.

If anyone must be retrenched, it should be those outside the bargaining unit.

Message to Mr Solly Mokoetle

If indeed it is so that Mr Mokoetle does not have the time to hear Comrade Rian Geldenhuys' appeal, we request that he at the very least promises protection for Mr Simon Swart, who is today, Wednesday 3 February 2010, burdened with making one of the most difficult decisions ever.

1. Do the right thing, and stand up against communist wife

2. Do the wrong thing, and support communist wife in her unlawful quest to silence all critics, Orwelian style.

Mr Swart - please take the right decision or, once again, the only winners will be the lawyers. They already have enough money. The SABC needs that money more than they do. Please save the SABC a fortune, and stand up against the fat cats pretending to be for the people.

Collective Bargaining

Comrades

The CWU Plant Executive needs your go-ahead on the following:

1. We want the SABC to PRIMARILY communicate all matters of mutual interest directly with the Plant Secretariat and Executive (whether it's Cde Tommy, Cde Rian or the Acting Plant Secretary, Cde Mimi).

2. Communication should be copied to CWU HQ, the Broadcasting and Allied Co-ordinator, Vulture, and the General Secretary, Gallant Roberts.

3. We need to mandate a member elected team in terms of the CWU office, and communicate the point of contact to the SABC. We feel that the point of contact should be immediately able to disseminate information to members, and HQ is not as able to do that as the Plant Secretariat is.

Please comment - the Plant Executive will be the communication hub for the union at SABC, and this is aimed entirely at improving communication channels, not at replacing union HQ. Effective communication is absolutely vital!

UPDATE ON CDE RIAN'S CASE: He will get to hear the sanction from the panel tomorrow at 14:00. Note that the panel now consists only of two members as the third is on suspension pending investigations.

Are you willing to defend the organisational rights of the union?

Can Cde Rian expect a fair hearing from these SABC managers?

By refusing to see our value, the SABC negotiators are:

Who currently keeps the SABC on air?

SEF has convinced Jane Duncan (freedom of expression champion) to accept our nomination, only if it comes from us

The counter proposal is:

Should CWU/MWASA refer the "agreement" signed by "SMS ballot" to CCMA for adjudication?

The letter to SABC Board is hereby:

Who can save the SABC?

What is the main reason you will strike?

What should the Minister do to stop the strike?

Who should we negotiate with?

Important Vote - Build the SABC

When you vote on this blog, your views are seen by the Minister, New Board, Exco, SMF, SOS campaign, TVIEC, ICASA, and the owners - the People of South Africa.

ONLY VOTE ONCE!, When it is the square tickboxes, first select ALL the blocks you agree with, then press "Vote".

ALL COMRADES MUST PLEASE VOTE! - pass it on - Shop Steward Janine Murison has been denied an opportunity to present the truth in Labour Court. Please mandate the Way Forward:

Which of the following are most responsible for the financial freefall at the SABC?

For Waste, Secrecy, Arrogance, and (Allegations), we Demand the Suspension and Invesigation of:

What is the best type of increase for you?

Who should resign?

Should SABC EXCO refuse our demands, will you:
