According to the LRA, the SABC is now supposed to appoint a full time Shop Steward for CWU.

members of the workplace forum may designate from their number one
full-time member.
(2) (a) The employer must pay a full-time member of the workplace forum
the same remuneration that the member would have earned in the position
the member held immediately before being designated as a full-time
member.
(b) When a person ceases to be a full-time member of a
workplace forum, the employer must reinstate that person to the
position that person held immediately before election or appoint that
person to any higher position to which, but for the election, that
person would have advanced.

ReplyDeleteA Full Time Shop Steward is governed by a Recognition Agreement - not the LRA.
ReplyDeleteThe SABC has a Norm and Practice to pay 300 scale to a Full Time Shop Steward of a union that has more 1000 members.
However, this must be contained in a Reconition Agreement, and if they do not want to sign one suitable to us - we must declare a dispute.
