The Minister of Communication has referred to the SABC as being "Staff Heavy". Comrades, it is very urgent that you provide the Shop Stewards Council with information on your top heavy line management:
1. Are they needed?
2. What is their actual contribution to the SABC?
3. Do they get the best out of their staff?
These reports are required by your Shop Steward - let us make sure the real dead wood (expensive managers) are retrenched. We must mobilise against any attempts to reduce numbers in the bargaining unit - we are here to work.
If anyone must be retrenched, it should be those outside the bargaining unit.

Are you willing to defend the organisational rights of the union?
Can Cde Rian expect a fair hearing from these SABC managers?
By refusing to see our value, the SABC negotiators are:
Who currently keeps the SABC on air?
SEF has convinced Jane Duncan (freedom of expression champion) to accept our nomination, only if it comes from us
The counter proposal is:
Should CWU/MWASA refer the "agreement" signed by "SMS ballot" to CCMA for adjudication?
The letter to SABC Board is hereby:
Who can save the SABC?
What is the main reason you will strike?
What should the Minister do to stop the strike?
Who should we negotiate with?

They talk of overstaffing (which I believe) but in TV (maybe also Radio) we are understaffed and also make extensive use of freelancers!!! How can this be?
ReplyDeleteIt is managers who are overstaffed. Not workers. We are understaffed.
ReplyDeleteBut how do you expect managers to retrench themselves?
ReplyDeleteYou guys are just plain hopeless. Do you even know that there was a movie in Hungarian [?] a few weeks back with no subtitles [!]. Thought not. Maybe spend a bit more time working and a bit less time complaining and therell be no need to fire the lot of yer.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how firing the entire staff will put subtitles on Hungarian movies but then I'm just a plain hopeless worker.
ReplyDeleteThis useless worker is one of the hundeds of useless workers who makes sure the SABC still stands through all the kak the manangement has put us through. From mismanaging SABC funds to "damagment" of the public broadcaster. Where was the Manager of that department when the movie went out. "clearly not managing" if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteNice! But listen guys. We are supposed to be controlling our budget. I'm only talking TV here. In Richards Bay, in 2008, News commissioned a new office, this is complete with telkom atm, 2 * p2 cameras, p2 player, fcp laptop editor, monitors etc. Plus rental on the office, 2 floors which overlook the harbour. Due to staffing problems, this office has never been used & the equipment has never been used because no-one knows who it belongs to. There is a radio studio there also. Then talk to me about controlling our budgets and retrenching our staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWHAT'S HAPPENING WITH THE "APPEAL" OF COMRADE RAIN?
ReplyDeleteWHY ARE CWU MEMBERS KEPT IN THE DARK REGARDING COMRADE RIAN?
Marius van Rensburg and Litha (a CWU member) are the panel. They have still not given the outcome.
ReplyDeleteOK, as expected, Marius van Rensburg has played the Top managements game again. He believes Rian is no longer welcome at SABC. No Shop Steward that speaks out, is welcome at SABC. The SABC is a fucking joke.
ReplyDeletewhat now????????????are we taking Rian's case to CCMA/
