Disrespectful SABC now feels the brunt of Worker Frustration

Our members (Communication Workers Union) in both Telkom and SABC has run out of patience and have requested their national leadership to allow them to bring forward the Strike Programme of Action against these two employers.

As a result of this legitimate frustration, CWU members in the SABC will be “Staying Away” from work on the 29th and 30th of July 2009, countrywide. Our leadership welcomes this show of militancy and worker control principle by the members of our organisation.

The two day stay away will be followed by other forms of industrial action from the beginning of August 2009 till the SABC respect and implement the multi-term salary agreement.

CWU and its members are determined to force the “Public Broadcaster” to respect agreements and to priorities workers plight to win back the much needed loyalty and dedication the employer need from its employees.

I fully agree - the interest MUST be paid - it is just right! Why should they reap the benefits of late payments? Shame on BEMAWU for pandering to the thieves, and letting them get away with this! Viva CWU viva! Viva MWASA viva!

I think we have too many Unions within the SABC and Nothing is going to Work until we sing in One Voice. There's a leason to be leant for the Constraction Worker.

I fully agree with the idea of having 1 Union with extremely strong leadership. Unfortunately the leadership of all three Unions have disappointed their members AGAIN. N

Note that CWU has signed up 100 more member in the last month alone - if any union, it's got to be CWU. It has great leaders, like Mimi, Rian, Lucy, and many more! I've joined last week, and I believe everyone else should too. it's only R50.

I call on all BEMAWU members and all freelancers to join us - fill in a CWU form now. We can not trust the current exco and their divide and rule tactics.

We will not accept an agreement signed by an individual who has been proven on may occasions to shun democracy and lie about mandates!

Join CWU or MWASA (freelancers - join CWUSA or UASA). Do it now!

Bemawu is selling out CWU leaders to management, he is the one who told managers to suspend Comrade Rian and now he is orchestrating Mimi's suspension. Comrades we must not allow this to happen Hannes is failing employees!!!

Hannes has disappointed us and knifed us in the back 3 years in a row now.

Let us demand that he and all his racist members leave the SABC, together with their "baasskap" attitute!

I am a Bemawu member and definitely NOT a racist. Please do not generalise. Not all his members agree with what he is doing. And a lot are planning to resign. We are not stupid so please do not underestimate our intelligence.

Dear Bemawu member - I apologise on behalf of Anonymous who may have seemed he/she was generalising. I am sure he/she did not mean ALL Bemawu members are racists - only those who think that striking is a "black" thing.

Please take it from me - both of you - we must protect our interests as workers TOGETHER.

This is now the 5th year in a row that Hannes has ridden on the back of the pressure created by militant workers (of which I am one), and then settled, in order to try and sell the idea he is "professional" and "responsible".

This is also the last year. BEMAWU members must now vote with their feet. Note how many excellent (albeit militant) leaders of all races CWU has. Lucy, Rian, Fatima, Bags, Samantha, Beryl, Sharlene, Raija, Hamilton, Robbie, Keith, Amanda, Lindy, and Clint works in perfect harmony with Mimi, Billy, Tommy, Vincoco, Aaron, Simon, Hazel, Amelia, Zola, Mishack and so many others. It is clearly the only real union, with the best Shop Stewards in the World!

Thanks for this, I agree. Just remember that Lindy is also a BEMAWU shop steward.
